The methodology based on hydro-FEM simulations (LS-DYNA) to deliver requirements and to design trials for Missile’s equipment that must survive to the shock of impact on threat

Mainly in anti-ship or anti-bunker Missiles and generally in those that need to be inside the threat to neutralize it with blast effect, there are fundamental equipment that must structurally survive to the shock of impact and maintain a configuration that guarantee their functionality. As examples, we can respectively mention the electronic board of Safe and Arm Unit and the pyro-chain for main charge ignition. In MBDA, we adopt a methodology to deliver Technical Requirement Specifications of that equipment and to perform Shock Qualification Test. Simulation of impacts and trials is the key tool that drives the methodology from begin to end: as MBDA Italy, we perform them with LS-DYNA. FEM hydro-code allows estimation of shock levels between typical missile scenarios and evaluation of mechanical answer of under investigation equipment. In addition, it allows to evaluate how reproduce the worst shock levels or their SRS envelope for representative tests and trials.
