In the Gulhane Military Medical Faculty Skills Laboratory, acquisition of basic clinical skills are gained by using task specific models and a variety of simple simulators. In the beginning of this presentation, their diversity as well as advantages and disadvantages are briefly described. Medical simulators have a variety of different style and properties, computer-based software and hardware. A single skill-specific, which has computer software that aims cognitive skills gaining, or multiple applications that allow only individual physiological data developing on a mannequin. As well as a large number of applications which may be performed on very complex medical scenarios. Although different groupings are available, medical simulators can be divided into four or five groups as; computer based simulators, task specific models, virtual reality simulators, instructor driven simulators etc. We now know and widely accept that medical simulators are a vital part of both pre and post graduate education in medical faculties as well as
training other health personnel such as paramedics, nurses and first aid responders. Medical simulators are very useful for gaining basic and advanced clinical skills, organization of tough and emergency circumstances, understanding how to act in the event of a rarely seen case etc. Advantages of simulators are not limited to abovementioned training skills; in order to avoid possible medical malpractices caused by health personnel, simulators have again play critical roles. Beneficiaries can perform limitless repeat to gain a particular skill which is impossible to practice on a real patient and get this skill almost flawlessly. As a medical expert can readily presume that in contemporary world, during pre and post graduate educational period, simulators play critical roles as well as having several other advantages including being both time-effective and cost-effective. In this presentation, first, in order to obtain best expected results for both trainee and trainers, what kind of simulators should be available in the simulation center well be mentioned. Second, by knowing that different simulators those have different capabilities, different combination and approaches will be discussed. Also what we need to take into account whilst choosing which elements where, why, and which should be preferred as well as the number per trainers will be shortly evaluated.
