Modelling and Simulation of Vehicle Systems consisting of Angle-Resolved ICE and Driveline with Dual Mass Flywheel

The reduction of development costs and vehicle system integration time require several company departments working together in more comprehensive simulation environments.
This paper presents the analysis of a crank angle internal combustion engine (ICE) and an entire vehicle driveline, including a user-defined model of automotive Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF) in the AVL CRUISE M common vehicle simulation platform. The implemented DMF model considers two arc springs discretized in several lumped masses and their friction behaviour due to both centrifugal effects and redirection forces.
Furthermore this paper highlights how the connectivity of different modelling levels is advantageous for the optimization of vehicle performance, engine control strategies and drivetrain vibration.
